Development Team Welcomes Suggestions for Renaming
Creativity Outpours from Residents
Cincinnati, OH (March 6, 2009) – The Master Development Team of Carter and the Dawson Company announced today they’re upgrading the online renaming survey to allow residents of Cincinnati and Hamilton County to insert their own original name suggestions.
"The response we’ve received is overwhelming," said Trent Germano, vice chairman at Carter. "This provides a great opportunity to collect ideas and continue to reinforce that this development belongs to the people of Cincinnati and Hamilton County."
Members of the development team reviewed dozens of online posts throughout Wednesday and Thursday that listed name after name for the riverfront development. Passionate residents e-mailed their suggestions to the developers, creating dialogue between the development team and interested citizens. The creativity and thought that went into some suggestions made even senior members of the development team take notice.
"The originality and creativity in some of the suggested names was impressive," said Jerome Hagley, executive vice president and COO of the Dawson Company. "We recognize that support from the people of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will help make this development a success, and we’re delighted that residents want to play a larger role in the naming process."
Residents who visit carterdawson.com will now be able to vote on a fifth option "other" that will prompt them to enter an original submission. Votes that had previously been recorded have been preserved, and voters who have already submitted a vote will be able vote again this time with the "other" option available to them.
The survey will still close March 17 at 11:59 p.m. At this time, the development team will review the original submissions, select the most inspiring candidates and begin to run the top names through the proper legal channels. The final names will then be put to the people of Cincinnati and Hamilton County again via a final survey over a more condensed timeframe.
"The timing of the final vote depends on how quickly we can sort through the proper legal channels to put this to a final vote," said Malloy Peterson, director of marketing at Carter, "but we expect it should take only a few weeks." Peterson said they’d keep the public informed as the naming process continues.
The Banks is a joint City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Carter, Dawson project. Once completed, The Banks will be Cincinnati’s largest single, mixed-use development and be composed of a dynamic blend of residential, office, hotel and retail components. Phase 1A of the riverfront development is under construction and will include a minimum of 300 apartments and 70,000 square feet of retail.
