Development Team to Potentially Rename 'The Banks'
Residents to Vote for Their Favorite Name
Cincinnati, OH (March 4, 2009) – The Master Development Team of Carter and the Dawson Company announced today they’re looking to rename Cincinnati’s riverfront development commonly known as The Banks with the help of Cincinnati and Hamilton County residents.
"This development belongs to the people of Cincinnati and Hamilton County," said Trent Germano, vice chairman at Carter. "We want their input and support to help us create a final product that everyone in the region can be proud of."
Several months of analysis, research and interviews showed renaming the development with input from residents would be well-received. In November, the private developers began the task of formulating possible names that reflected the distinctiveness of the development and drawing upon its unique location.
"We wanted to tie the development to the features that make it so unique," said Malloy Peterson, director of marketing at Carter. "All of the names we selected link the development to its prime location on the Ohio riverfront banks or near the ballparks."
The development team also spent time researching the names to ensure that most legal hurdles are cleared for use. "We considered dozens of names," said Peterson. "Not only do the selected names link the development to its prime location, they’re also ready for use once the votes have been counted."
Peterson said the end goal is to give the development its own identity as a neighborhood in Cincinnati, like nearby areas such as Mt. Adams or Over-the-Rhine. "Each street or district adds its own features and uniqueness that makes Cincinnati what it is today," said Peterson. "We want this development to complement downtown and add even more diversity to the Queen City."
Residents of Cincinnati and Hamilton County who wish to help define a piece of Cincinnati will be able to help select the new name by visiting www.carterdawson.com. Residents will be able to choose their favorite name from the following list and view real-time results.
- Riverfront District
- Park District
- Parkside
- The Banks
"We're pleased with each name and stand ready to move forward with our branding pending the results," said Germano.
The Carter-Dawson Web site will activate the survey on March 4th at 12:01 a.m. Votes will be collected for two weeks with voting ending on March 17th at 11:59 p.m.
Once completed, The Banks will be Cincinnati's largest single, mixed-use development and be composed of a dynamic blend of residential, office, hotel and retail components. Phase 1A of the riverfront development is under construction and will include a minimum of 300 apartments and 70,000 square feet of retail.
